Unique in
Europe, this area, both a private museum and a workshop, makes everybody discover this major art of trompe-l'oeil, not so famous and yet, used all over the world since the origines of humanity.
Rapidly, the reputation of this area dedicated to this magic and surprising art of illusion goes further abroad, thanks to the eccentricity of its theme and to the high quality of its exhibitions. It is now a reference.
All year long we offer you organized activities for groups and lots of different courses about decorative painting. A various passionated public comes always in larger numbers to visit the Museum which represents now in the Perigord a tourist site not to be missed.
Cradle of Humanity, the Dordogne is a very specific region. Actually, here, during prehistory, the early beginnings of trompe-l'oeil appeared when our ancestors, by the light of the torches or oil lamps, experimented the rocky walls in order to give volume to animals they painted.
This very first art is going to increase until the time it reaches the perfect mastery of imitating reality during Antiquity. And this is precisely in the gallo-roman part of Périgueux that the Museum is located.
Inside the Museum, several parts have been created:
*
The permanent exhibition part
* The temporary exhibition part
* The studio
* Our shop
* Our library
Founder and Director: Anne-MarieCHERRIER
Coming from many generations of weavers and from a family of 20th Century oriental-style painters, she very early displayed a passion for Trompe-l’oeil and decorative painting
She perfected her technique at the Paris Higher Institute of Decorative Painting and at the GUEGAN Institute in Brittany; she learned fresco technique at the European Foundation PROP VENITA VIVA and on other courses in France and Italy.
Mistress of the play of shadow and light, she creates imaginary places by the skillful use of the most precious materials and produces various works throughout the whole of France: Chateaux in the Bordeaux region, false marbling painted on the hull of a magnificent 25 metre sailing yacht used for cruising in sunny climes, design and production of frescos on the fronts of houses, in a church in the Dordogne, etc.
By creating the Musée du Trompe-l’oeil et du Décor Peint in 2002, Anne-Marie CHERRIER wishes to share her passion with us and pass her knowledge onto us.
DEFINITIVE CLOSURE OF THE MUSEUM on the 14th of January 2010
